Thermocouple
Did you know that your gas hob is fitted with one of these?
All approved gas hobs are fitted with these flame failure devices, called thermocouples. They are there to shut down gas supply to the hob if the flame fails thus preventing continual gas flow into the house. It is an essential safety device, however, after time they may become faulty. The good news is that they are designed to fail safe and your gas plate will simply no longer ignite. This is most commonly mistaken for a faulty gas hob, yet the majority of the time, it is the thermocouple which needs replacing, not the entire hob.
